Storytime Sunday

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis was one of my favourite book when I was little – so much so that when I was six I went to school dressed up as Pixie Pat on World Book Day (complete with a massive red paper cone on my head – thanks mum!)

I found it while staying at my parents recently and really enjoyed rediscovering the cute little animals and quirky illustration style…

I love the vintage colours and particularly like the trees with their mix of white and brights…

A perfect little springtime story x

Charley Harper

This week’s ‘A Little Book Award’ (judged by myself and Elsie) goes to ABC’s by Charley Harper

Every time I see something by Charley Harper I am instantly drawn towards it.  His designs are so unusual and unique, I absolutely love them.

Sadly Harper died in 2007.  When once asked to describe his art style, he replied, “When I look at a wildlife or nature subject, I don’t see the feathers in the wings, I just count the wings. I see exciting shapes, color combinations, patterns, textures, fascinating behavior and endless possibilities for making interesting pictures…”

To read all about his life and work, and to see more of his amazing illustrations check out this website.

 Loving the back page!

Today’s trip to the library…

One of the best things about having a baby is that now I have an excuse to spend hours in the children’s section at the library, I can’t get enough of kids books!

Here are my 2 favourites from today’s picks…

Just love love love the illustration style in ‘Ramadan Moon’ by Shirin Adl, beautiful!

And then we got another of Oliver Jeffers books, ‘Up and Down.’  I love all of his books so much, the pictures are great and full of humour…

Bring on bedtime!
